Hello everyone, its Kenya here reporting with some more healthy lifestyle tips 🙂
Living a healthy lifestyle used to be so hard for me. What I realized is that the reason it was hard is because I was making it hard by comparing my version of a healthy lifestyle to fitness models and Instagram models and YouTube influencers who ate spinach bowls and vegan diets on a regular basis.
Starting a healthy lifestyle is supposed to be fun and tailored to you. It’s supposed to be filled with exercises that you love doing at your pace for an amount of time that you set it for. It’s supposed to be making better food choices but still being FREE to make a few bad diet choices.
When people hear healthy lifestyle all they think of is spinach, kale and nonstop exercise when in reality it’s about happiness. You should do what makes you happy.
I personally workout 3 – 4 times a week for about 15 – 30 minutes each time. The workout is at my pace at the time I chose.
I still eat out, I still drink alcohol occasionally and I still eat cookies, cake and ice cream. WHY because I love cookies, cake and ice cream. I don’t eat them every day, but I’ll be damned if I lived a life without them because they bring a smile to my face.
I literally do a happy dance when I eat sweets… and no healthy lifestyle is going to rob me of that authentic and pure joy.
You should be happy and healthy and apart of being healthy is also taking care of your mental health so don’t stress yourself out with crazy diet plans and ridiculous exercise plans.
Pace yourself and enjoy this post 🙂 then create a plan on how you can slowly but surely create a HAPPY healthy lifestyle that you love!

Drink More Water
Well I know this is pretty obvious, but I felt I would be lying to you all if I didn’t mention it in this post. As you probably know our bodies are 80% water and if you are not fully hydrated then you are missing out on your potential.
I am guilty of not drinking enough water but seriously it is SO IMPORTANT!
Also, for a while I looked much larger and I was sad because I really thought I was gaining weight. When I went to my physician, I mentioned this to him, and he said that I was incredible bloated probably from poor eating habits. My doctor told me to drink half my body weight in ounces of water a day. Meaning I’m 135 pounds so I should be drinking 67.5 ounces of water or MORE a day or about four 16oz bottles of water a day.
In reality I was drinking less than one bottle of water a day and drinking a ton of carbonated beverages and juice. That is a NO NO! I was killing my productivity, my skin was gross, I felt tired all the time and I was bloated AF!
Once I started drinking more water, I noticed a lot of changes in my life. My skin was clearer, my mind was clearer, I didn’t eat as much, and I just felt better and more energized. And GUESS WHAT no more bloating- I lost like 6lbs in one week.
I’m not saying water is the key to losing weight and that all you need to do is drink 10 gallons of water and you will be healthy and fit (PLEASE don’t do that).
BUT I am saying water is a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle and it is an easy thing to implement. I use an app called Plant Nanny to track and remind me to drink water at certain times a day. I bought a cute little water bottle on Amazon and I started my journey to drinking more water
I super recommend starting your healthy lifestyle journey with drinking more water! It’s a simple step and it will make you feel good about yourself. If you think water is boring and gross, try out these fun and fruity Infused Water Recipes.
Get More Active
I know I know I keep listing the obvious, but it is necessary that I mention how important it is to be a little more active to really reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
No i’m not saying go and workout 6 days a week BUT doing some light workouts throughout the week will not only increase your mood but it will increase your overall health.
Exercise reduces your chances of developing heart disease and high blood pressure (hypertension). So, I would recommend that you get moving. I have worked in a doctor’s office and I have seen first-hand the pain that people who suffer from those diseases are in and the amount of medication that is needed to maintain their life.
Exercise helps with having good blood flow, reducing the amount of plaque and buildup in your heart that causes heart disease and it will naturally uplift your mood.
I currently work out from my home because I found it is the only way I can motivate myself to actually workout. I use the Nike Fitness App and I just select a workout with the desired workout time that I want. I usually choose between 10- 30 minutes.
I love the Nike Training App because it is so simple and is literally like your own free personal trainer. They have awesome guided workouts for people at all fitness levels and you can do them right at home with no equipment. Baby Steps Consistency over quality AND quantity
Consistency is all you need to develop a healthy lifestyle. Once you can find a way to become consistent with something then you have created a habit. Once something is a habit then you can train yourself to do that particular habit better.
Say you want to start exercising, it’s really easy to get caught up in the end result which is exercising 6 times a week and doing yoga every night and stretching every morning, but it is not realistic to expect that much from yourself in the. beginning.
This way of thinking and setting goals is not using baby steps and consistency because you have set yourself up for something that you are not used to or disciplined to do yet. You have to build that discipline by creating the habit then you can take bigger steps but only after you have taken the smaller steps.
A better way to approach the goal of exercising would be doing 3 at home workouts a week Right before bed for about 10 minutes each workout.
That is a small and achievable goal and even if you do 3 workouts a week for 5 minutes or 2 workouts a week for 10 minutes you are creating a habit and being consistent.
All that matters is consistency!
Once you can be consistent for a few weeks then you can start adjusting your lifestyle more and more and eventually you will be a different person because you are making healthier choices consistently.
This method works for everything I promise you. Break all your healthy lifestyle goals up into small achievable steps and watch yourself actually begin to create healthier habits.
Take Some Supplements
Okay so the actual thought of taking pills absolutely makes me cringe but I have to bite the bullet and take one for the team for my health. I think supplements are amazing for getting a targeted vitamin that solves a problem for you.
I personally take a daily GUMMY multivitamin called One a Day for Women and I love it. Not only is it gummy (I hate pills) but I have noticed a change in my daily energy and performance from this vitamin.
I also take Olive Leaf Extract and a Hair Skin and nails supplement daily as well. Now Olive leaf Extract is something I have been taking for years to help improve my immune system. I is a really good supplement that has anti-viral and antibacterial properties to prevent illness and promote internal and external health.
The Hair Skin and Nails Gummy that I take is called Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin and Nail Gummies. Which just help with the natural growth of your hair skin and nails. Which is a big part of your overall health. Health is not just your weight .. It is also your skin your teeth and internal components as well.
When you’re healthy inside you look healthy and beautiful outside
Make Healthier Diet Choices
Ughhhh Kenya are you telling me that I have to eat spinach and rice cakes for the rest of my life to be healthy?
Do you honestly think I would strive for healthiness if it meant not ever being able to enjoy the things I love? There is absolutely no way. You are talking to a girl who can eat a whole can of Pringles and a whole tub of Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream and still be looking for more food to eat.
But seriously, stop following these crazy, strenuous and depressing diets that eliminate all things we are born to love. How about you just opt to eat less of those horrible things while still experimenting with cooking clean and healthy meals.
I’m 22 I don’t have time, money or even the skill to cook every meal. I’m still getting it together myself BUT what I can do I look on Pinterest and find some fun meals and set a goal to cook more or cook 1 meal a day or 5 meals a week. Just eating at home in general! My boyfriend and I have started ordering our groceries on Instacart and getting a combination of healthy and fun meals and snacks so we can stop eating McDonalds for 6 days straight.
Check out my Healthy Recipes Board on Pinterest some QUICK healthy ideas J
Having control over what you’re eating makes a big difference. We use Frozen skillets from Aldi that have veggies, chicken and pasta and can be heated up in 5 minutes. No, it’s not from whole foods or organic but it’s a lot more satisfying and mindful than a Jumbo Jack from Jack in the Box.
Make small changes at a time and don’t ever stop eating brownies and bread and caramel sauce because you can’t be healthy without being happy and if brownies make you happy then dammit eat them but in moderation. 😀
Be in Touch with Yourself
This is probably the most important part of starting a healthy lifestyle. You have to be in sync with yourself. You have to identify your reasons for wanting to live a healthy lifestyle and what you are doing wrong currently to keep you from living a healthy lifestyle
Do you drink too much alcohol?
- Too much fast food?
- Are you eating too much?
- Do you not feel good about yourself?
Everyone’s WHY is different, and it should be authentic not “I want to start a healthy lifestyle because it’s what I should be doing or what everyone else is doing”
Your WHY has to drive you to do what needs to be done to accomplish that goal.
You have to set goals and expectations.
- What does a healthy lifestyle look like to you?
- Is that idea realistic?
Before you even being striving for this “healthy lifestyle” you have to determine what it is you are striving for. So, get a pen and some paper and make some goals for your version of a healthy lifestyle !
Well there you have it 6 Ways to Start a Healthier Lifestyle.
The things I mentioned are not traditional, most people don’t tell you to eat brownies when they are telling you to be healthy.
The point I am trying to make is that healthy has to be your own definition of healthy and only you can determine that for yourself. Apart of living a healthy lifestyle is also being HAPPY so I believe you should eat foods that make you happy while learning how to make healthier food choices that make you happy as well. I’ve learned that I love oven roasted Brussel sprouts MORE than I love a trip to Burger King or Taco Bell.
Just find what works for you. Find your healthy happy balance where you are mindful of your health but also happy and free to make unhealthy decisions every once and a while 😀
