Hello loves , this is an exciting post BECAUSE it is a detailed skin care routine that is suitable for any skin type. I have learned so much about skin care and think I finally cracked the code to a pretty damn good routine that has given me great results.
Taking care of your skin is a process and requires consistency but this post is gonna BREAK DOWN step by step what your skin care routine needs to give you healthy and beautiful skin .
Disclosure:I just want to let you know that I do receive commission when you purchase products I link in this post. This is of course at no cost to you and all of my recommendations are honest personal opinions only and should be followed at your own risk 🙂
Wash and Moisturize Face
Every morning I wash my face with a very light cleanser . I chose a light cleanser because there is not much to clean off my face in the morning so I don’t feel the need to use a harsh cleanser .
I currently use Aveeno Foaming Cleanser which is very gentle and moisturizing . This cleanser provides me with a nice clean base for make up and a thin layer of moisture to prevent my skin from getting too dry or oily .It is always a good idea to moisturize your skin after washing your face , even for those with oily skin .
To prevent greasy moisturizing products from being under your make up , I recommend using a good quality combined SPF moisturizer like the Neutrogena SPF Moisturizer – which is the one I use . This keeps you from stacking 2 heavy moisturizers and SPF under your makeup but still allows you to be protected from the sun and moisturized for the day .
Step 1 | Remove your Makeup
Before you begin to use products it is important that your skin is not covered in a full face of makeup . Yes, cleansers clean your face but they also include penetrating ingredients that work to perfect your skin – if you just lather a face wash over makeup you are reducing the benefits that you can gain from the face wash .
I am currently using Garnier Micellar Water to cleanse my face before I CLEANSE my face haha. Its light but removes all the makeup and dirt and oil off the surface of the skin so that the face wash can do its job when applied .
Step 2 | Wash your Face
Once all the gross stuff is removed from your skin its time to use a good face wash that has ingredients such as salicylic acid and Benzoyl peroxide . These ingredients work to fight acne, blackheads and white heads while also preventing future breakouts .
I alternate between Aveeno Foaming Cleanser and Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser and they have been doing so well with controlling my breakouts. I also have scars from previous breakouts and they seem to be fading slowly not sure if its the face wash or the combination of products but I’m definitely noticing a difference .
A HUGE part of my skin health and softness I have to give props to my face brush which basically is a device that electronically brushes and exfoliates your skin removing all the dead skin to make room for new and fresh skin .
If both of these products are out of your budget I recommend a good face scrub like the St. Ives Facial Scrub to really get a good deep cleanse for your face at least 3 times a week but the face brushes can be used everyday with a regular face cleanser !
Step 3 | Use a Toner For Extra Clean Skin
Toners are amazing . After using a toner your skin is literally CLEANER THAN CLEAN. Toners basically just remove any residual dirt and grime that the makeup remover and face wash missed and add a thin layer of moisture to the skin .
Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see a post for DIY Toners that you can make at home for free . For toner I currently use Mario Badescu Rosewater Toner but you can also use plain Witch Hazel as well its slightly cheaper and it works great as a toner . I prefer the Mario Badescu because it really does add that layer of moisture and it has witch hazel , rosewater and some other really good nourishing ingredients that my skin LOVES !
Step 4 | Face Serum To Replenish and Nourish Your Skin
This was a step I had never did before 2018 but since I researched healthy skin in the past and stumbled across The Skinny Confidential and she emphasized face serums on her YouTube Channel Here . I ended up buying some serums on amazon and let me tell you my skin CHANGED .
YOU NEED A FACE SERUM, NO NEGOTIATIONS!
I’m am so serious , using AT LEAST ONE serum every night , I have noticed a drastic change in the health of my skin . Face serums provide nutrients to the skin so it can grow back clearer, stronger and healthier .
I switch out my serums regularly but I am currently using a Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum and the No7 Restore and Renew Serum every single night. The Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum is a liquid serum and adds so much moisture and helps with collagen creation in the skin making it smooth , pore less and hydrated.
Step 5 | Eye Cream to Eliminate Dark Circles
Eye cream is optional but I have noticed a change in the youthfulness of my eyes. My eyes just look healthy and subtle. I would definitely say its a huge part of my skin care regimen but is definitely not a necessity .
If you have dark circles or darker rings around your eyes you may want to consider an eye cream to bring balance back to the skin around your eyes . I found my Cereve Eye Repair Cream at Walgreens (local drugstore) but you can also find it on Amazon 😀 I love buying all my skin products at once on amazon lol it saves a significant amount of money and you can see the reviews if you have any doubts !
Step 6 | Night Cream For Intense Skin Hydration
After all the nutrients have been added into the skin its time to moisturize the skin with a night cream. I say night cream over a regular moisturizer because night creams provide intense moisture and nutrients over night and you can tell a difference when using a night cream vs a regular moisturizer . I currently use Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream and in the morning after use, my skin is always soft as a baby’s ass and super hydrated- not sure if that’s the results you’re hoping for but I LOVE the product !
Step 7 | Face Mask to Detoxify your Skin
Okay so face masks are not something that I do on a daily basis but they are a VERY IMPORTANT part of ANY skin care routine. Using a face mask 2-3 times a week will remove all impurities and toxins from your skin and really do a deep cleanse.
The face mask I use regularly is the Indian Healing Clay but you can also check on my post on 5 All Natural Face Masks that you can make at home in your kitchen . I love the Indian Clay Mask but the natural masks work great and have wonderful benefits . Definitely add a face mask to you skin care routine.
Having a solid skin care routine is essential to having healthy skin . Just remember , beauty takes time and the key to any routine is consistency . You may not notice results overnight but with time you will notice a change.
These products may not work for you and thats okay the purpose of beauty is trial and error and you have to find what works best for you and your body and skin . These are just some tips that can make it easier .
