Sharing Is Caring :D

Hello my Lovely Ladies! I hope all is well.

There was a point in my life where I was just so unorganized and frustrated because I did not understand why life was just SO HARD. Adulting is literally the most difficult thing ever you have to exercise, eat right, keep a clean home, pay your bills, take care of your health and it is very overwhelming to take on all at once

This post is all about the liberating and overwhelming truth about ADULTING and some small changes you can make to actually get your life together starting TODAY!

the truth about adulting

Lately I’ve been quite proud of myself and the way I have been able to organize my life and get on track to actually be an adult in society.

  • I’ve been paying my bills on time AND have actual funds in my savings
  • I have a big girl job
  • I keep my home clean
  • I Exercise …..kind of
  • I TRY to monitor my diet…. moderately

and let me tell you it has be great. I have been great.

It has NOT always been this way though; it took time and changes definitely had to be made if I wanted to live a better life and honestly there are days when I do NOT have it together AT ALL!

In fact, last Friday I switched shifts with my coworker so she could attend a doctor’s appointment – I was supposed to be at work at 7am but guess who’s silly butt set her alarm for 7am.

How irresponsible can a girl get …

and What does it actually mean to be an “adult” and to “have your life together”.

I’m here to tell you it means nothing … NOBODY actually has their life together they just have their life more organized, so it seems like these people are more prepared because they are. Those people who “have it together” – have routines and plans and things they have become disciplined to do on a regular basis to keep their life in order.

So, I’m here to tell you how you can be more prepared, disciplined and organized so you can FINALLY become the adult you are striving to be and “get your life together” .

1| Completely Organize Your Home

The truth is, not having an organized home can hold you back in a lot of areas of life. There was a time when my house was very unorganized, and I was always late or running behind and honestly, I would even talk myself out of doing things because I was overwhelmed by clutter.

It’s not a hard thing to do and you will feel amazing when you find a place for everything and have an organized living space.

SO, go through your home, declutter and find or create a place for everything so you can take control of your life.

  • Throw away any trash and junk.
  • Throw away clothes you have not worn in a year and clean out your closet. (Check out these closet organization hacks here)
  • Purchase a filing system and organize your important documents and shred or trash unneeded paper clutter and receipts.
  • Clean out your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets.
  • Deep clean and organize your kitchen (here are some fun kitchen organization ideas).
  • Deep clean and organize your bathroom (here are some bathroom organization ideas).
  • Clean the surfaces in your home (desktops, coffee tables etc.) and dust.
  • Sweep, mop and vacuum your home (where it applies haha don’t mop your carpet)
  • Organize and clean your bedroom (bedroom organization ideas )

I promise you this may take a whole day’s time, but it is worth it you will feel so refreshed when your environment Is clean and organized.

A clean home is a happy home.

2| Create a Budget and Start Saving

As horrible as it sounds creating a budget is necessary. It’s really easy to get paid and just spend until its gone but once you have bills and responsibilities you have to start making more responsible decisions with your finances.

The easiest way to do that is by creating a budget. All you need to do is sit down and take some time to determine your monthly expenses and your monthly income.

Here is a screenshot of how I budget every month this is for this coming week so dont judge my income i just want to be real about how I budget my money.

I do this in the notes in my phone or in my journal and it literally takes like 5 minutes . I can see my paychecks before they are distributed so i can budget before my money is in my account .

It is also important to set your budget up so you can start saving as well. How much you save is up to you. A good way to monitor and save your money is to have a bank account.

I have been using a online bank called Aspirations that is sooooo freakin amazing. You get cash bank on every purchase. They open you a checking and a savings account (with 2% APY) so you can spend (responsibly) and save as well without paying fees for both a checking and a savings account. Aspirations is FREE and donates a 10% of what you spend to charities of your choice.

I love this online bank it is amazing I get my monthly earnings directly deposited and I earn cash back on every dollar I spend, it’s free AND I’m donating to charities … like come on Awesome stuff.

You can sign up for an Aspirations account here and earn $25 when you deposit your first $10.

If you already have a bank account, then there’s no need to get another one I just thought I would tell you about the awesome benefits associated with Aspirations Online Bank .

So, get a create a budget that includes saving, get a bank account and be one step closer to a financially stable lifestyle. Which is a huge reason why some people seem to have it more together than others because they are able to budget effectively and create a stable savings in case of an emergency.

3| Clean Out Your Car

Let me tell you how horrible my car was. I moved into a new apartment and literally had clothes in my trunk from the move for 4 months.

Don’t be like me. Clean your car. Just take a lunch break or a Saturday afternoon like I FINALLY did and just clean your damn car out. Get all the water bottles and receipts and straw wrappers out of your car.

Buy some car air fresheners.

Make sure your insurance and registration papers are in neatly your CLEANED glove box. And get a car emergency kit to put in your CLEANED trunk just in case of emergencies. My mom bought me one and I can tell you how important it is to have jumper cables just in case you are like me and leave your car light on *sigh*.

Part of being an adult is making sure you are prepared. Having your insurance and registration and an emergency kit and spare tire may seem like stupid things to have but when the time comes you will be glad and could possibly save you time or even a trip to jail if you just get on the clean and organized car wagon.

4|Be Mindful of Your Health

As you get older your health becomes more and more important and its definitely best to start sooner than later. It’s not like your mom is there to schedule your appointments for you and remember to take you to the dentist that responsibility is all yours.

So, find a doctor in your area and schedule a basic physical exam. Get your bloodwork checked, go to the dentist to get a cleaning and make sure to schedule these appointments in your calendar.

If you don’t have health insurance, I recommend looking into researching a plan in your budget or seeing if your job offers a discounted plan.

There are also online doctors that can help with basic needs and even mental health needs that do not require insurance and are decent price. The best part is these are licensed physicians so you are getting quality medical advice from quality physicians.

Check out these online doctors here:

It may not seem important but making sure your health is taken care is the best way to ensure that you can put your best foot forward every day.

5|Exercise and Be Mindful of Your Diet

I cannot stress how important It is to be a little more physically active and more mindful of your diet. I’m not saying to start training for a marathon and to only eat rice crackers and kale but you should try to add exercise and a way to limit the processed food you intake.

Even if you only exercise 2 times a week you are still making an effort to maintain physical and your body will thank you for it. Also, just cutting down on fast food and trying to make healthy meals will benefit you greatly. Not only will you learn how to cook but you will also be eating wholesome and homecooked food which is good for your health and your soul.

I go grocery shopping every 2 weeks and don’t spend much money for me and my boyfriend to have better cooked meals. We still eat out, but we have cut back drastically to save money and our health.

6| Evaluate your Life and Set Goals

Every once in a while you should be sitting down and really evaluating your life. I like to call this a Life Audit – I’m sure you have heard of it while scrolling on Pinterest.

Well what a Life Audit is, is when you categorize your life into topics that are important to you like career , finances , relationships , household or whatever topics you would like and then you write down some goals .

  • Do you have a career goal?
  • Do you want to go back to school?
  • Want to save $1000 or build your credit?
  • Are you trying to start better habits?

Well then write it down. Figure out what it is in your life that is working and what is not working then and create some goals based on where you want to see yourself and what would make YOU the happiest.

I recommend doing this frequently – I do a life audit at least once every 6 weeks to really stay on top of my goals and the creation of my future self.

Here’s an AWESOME Life Audit Post By Mica Palmer that will walk you through how to audit your life and determine your goals. It also comes with a FREE Life Audit Workbook so definitely check it out.

7| Create a Plan

Once you have figured out your goals it’s time to create a PLAN so you can accomplish those goals. To do this you need to break down each goal into small steps.

For example:

 Find a Career

  1. Determine what kind of career I would like.
  2. Network at your current job to see if there are any openings.
  3. Update my resume
  4. Search for a new position in my career field of choice
  5. Apply for 10 positions a week until I land some interviews or apply within your current job for a new position.

Due Date:

I want to have a new job within the next 3 months.

This is how you plan a goal out. You determine what it is you want to do, and you figure out how you are going to do that, break it down into steps then take it one step at a time.

I recommend getting a really good planner or journal so you can track your goals and plans and really work on getting your life together .
